Jean-Michel Cazabat’s Bondage-Inspired Pre-Fall Collection

Shop-darling

At his holiday party/pre-fall showing last night, Jean-Michel Cazabat combined two of my favorite things—shoes and champagne. The designer’s latest collection, which was on display in his airy SoHo loft, fuses bondage and rock ’n’ roll elements (straps and studs) with romantic details (blush-hued slouchy suede and shimmering metallic). As an added bonus, Cazabat’s shoes feature hidden platforms for extra comfort. As he describes, “I love women too much to make them suffer.”

Jason Wu’s Pre-Fall Collection Takes Flight

Shop-darling

Jason Wu pre-fall dress For his first pre-fall collection, Jason Wu took inspiration from something he's become quite familiar with this past year—air travel (at yesterday's presentation he told me that he actually sleeps better on a plane than in a bed). Look closely at the 22-piece collection of jackets, skirts, sweaters, and, of course, dresses, and you'll find aviation-inspired elements (not to mention the chic new aviator sunglasses). Each season, the young designer challenges himself to work with new fabrics and techniques. For pre-fall, he worked with leather for the first time. In true Wu-fashion, he gave the hard-edged fabric an airy, feminine touch (the leather dress at left has an almost featherlike effect). Pre-fall, as well as resort, are like a “laboratory for designers”, Wu explained. “They allow you to resolve ideas from the previous season, while getting new ones for the next.” To cap off a spectacular year, the designer is about to move into his new 9,000 square-foot showroom in the heart of the garment district.

Shop-darling

Just in time for the holidays, the Proenza Schouler boys have launched e-commerce on their site, offering web-exclusive items and limited-edition goods. The Day-Glo-bright key chains for $135, wallets for $165, and stripe totes for $185 are just the things to give (and, fingers crossed, receive) this season. Thank you, Jack and Lazaro.

Shop Pamela Love’s Closet

Shop-darling

Pamla Love's Closet Aside from designing a line of ferociously chic, obsessively coveted jewelry, Pamela Love is also an avid collector of vintage. After spending the day in her overflowing closet recently for an upcoming ELLE.com feature, I got to see firsthand the impressive collection she’s amassed. Lucky for us all, she’s decided to part with some of her vintage gems. This Sunday in Brooklyn, Love, along with fellow designers like Alison Lewis, will sell clothing and accessories from their own highly curated closets. For Love, it’s not the old rock tees or vintage shoes that are the most heart-wrenching to part with. As she describes, it was hardest to say goodbye to “the Chanel dresses.” Get ’em while they last.

"A Sale for the Holidaze": Sunday, December 6, 12-5pm, Co-op 87, 87 Guernsey Street (between Nassau and Norman) Brooklyn, New York

Vena Cava’s New Converse High-Top Plus Holiday Shopping Secrets Revealed

Shop-darling

Sophie Buhai Vena Cava’s Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock have been wearing Converse since childhood, and still rock the classics on a regular basis (click here to see how Sophie styles them). The decision to create a special-edition shoe for Converse’s 1HUND(RED) Artists series, 10 percent of whose proceeds will go to the Global Fund which helps eliminate AIDS in Africa, came about over a casual dinner. Then, the duo quickly came up with design, each sketching their signature deco/Native American print directly onto the ivory canvas high-tops.

Both expert shoppers (I quickly discovered this fact after spending the day shooting in their respective closets for ELLE.com's Wardrobe Chic feature), Sophie and Lisa shared their holiday shopping secrets with me last night at their launch party for the new shoe. Sophie hasn't started shopping, but plans on “ordering some old-school camping supplies, like thermoses, flashlights, and blankets.” Lisa, on the other hand, is fini. Cleverly, she shops throughout the year, finding special gifts for loved ones along the way. “If you find the perfect gift for someone in March, buy it and save it for the holidays.”

The Vena Cava for Converse 1HUND(RED) Artists Chuck Taylor launches on December 5 at converse.com.
