Real-time search, rolled out last week, integrates live information such as tweets and news stories into results for Web pages.

An example used in a Google video was a search for information about loud music in Central Park. The results displayed included tweets from people who were in the area, either listening to or playing music, and news articles about complaints and court cases involving loud music in the park.

A Mashable.com blog post says the real-time search function also works for mobile users, at least iPhone and Android, but not BlackBerry, so far.

The other big announcement, which could have far-reaching implications, is the release of Google Goggles, a tongue-twister name for a very cool experimental application for Android devices out of Google Labs.

It’s worth going to the Google Goggles site to watch the video demo.

Let’s say I want to know the artist who created a painting I’m looking at. I use my phone to photograph the painting and Goggles returns search results for the image, including the name of the artist and details about the painting.

A simpler, yet functional use is business cards. Shoot a photo of somebody’s business card and the information is added to your contacts. No typing required.

They’re still working on the application, so some uses might not work. Don’t expect a photo of a plate of food to return accurate results.
